Build musical fluency.
BMF Guitar is a comprehensive program for guitarists who want to play by ear, improvise, and use music theory creatively.

I’m Dave Schoo, the guitarist and teacher behind BMF Guitar.
I’m also a songwriter and producer. I love making music, and I help other people do the same.
Music theory should serve creativity, not interfere with it. I’ve refined that approach through more than a decade of teaching, and it is the foundation of BMF Guitar.
Prove it.
Playing and teaching are different skills, and both matter. Before I explain how BMF Guitar works, I’ll start with the clearest résumé I can offer: the music itself.
The goal isn’t to teach you to play like me. It’s to help you expand what you can hear, understand, and do on the instrument.
There are no secrets.
No single shape, system, or way of viewing the fretboard will suddenly unlock music. Anyone promising otherwise is selling a shortcut that doesn’t exist.
Music works like a language. Its elements are connected, and each one strengthens the others.
That’s why BMF Guitar is comprehensive by design. It starts from the ground up, progresses step by step, and develops the core elements of musicianship together, including ear training, intervals, fretboard knowledge, chords, scales, improvisation, rhythm, and advanced harmony.
What you’ll gain.
- Use music theory creatively to expand musical options for songs and composition.
- Greatly expand musical memory, reducing the need to relearn songs.
- Learn to play by ear while connecting it to musical understanding.
- Learn to improvise.
- Know the entire fretboard in all 12 keys, without a capo.
- Understand the shared language of music and communicate clearly with other musicians.
- Learn much faster than working on your own.
Who BMF Guitar is for.
BMF Guitar is for guitarists who can already play songs or sections of songs comfortably and are ready to gain the broader benefits of musical fluency.
It is best suited to players who want to become more self-reliant and are willing to develop those abilities over time.
How the program works.
The program combines an evolving curriculum of video demonstrations and written material with live group lessons and personal feedback, giving you a clear path to work through on your own schedule, with direct support as you apply it.
The program works alongside the process of learning songs, helping you connect that work to the core elements of musicianship.
